FAQs

What services do you offer?

I specialise in providing speech and language therapy for toddlers and preschoolers with speech, language, and communication needs.
I primarily focus on working with children with delayed or disordered speech, language, and communication skills. This includes late talkers, children that have speech sound disorders (difficulty saying sounds in words), children that have difficulties using or understanding spoken language. Services include assessments, caregiver coaching, one-to-one therapy sessions, and training workshops for nurseries, school, and groups of parents.

What areas do you cover?

I offer Speech and Language Therapy in the Mansfield and Ashfield area of Nottinghamshire.
This includes Mansfield, Mansfield Woodhouse, Clipstone, Rainworth, Warsop, Sutton-in-Ashfield, and Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

How do I know if my child needs Speech and Language Therapy?

If you notice that your child is not meeting their communication milestones, or if they are having difficulty understanding others, expressing themselves, or interacting socially, it might be time to consider speech and language therapy.
Early signs may include limited vocabulary, difficulty following directions, unclear speech, or challenges with playing and interacting with peers. I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation where we can discuss your child’s needs and whether therapy would be beneficial.

What does the initial assessment involve?

The initial assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of your child's speech, language, and communication skills.
It will be tailored to your child’s needs and may involve a combination of standardised/non-standardised tests, observations, and parent/caregiver interviews to gather a full picture of your child's strengths and areas of need. This assessment helps us to tailor a therapy plan that is specific to your child's needs.

How long do therapy sessions last?

Therapy sessions typically last up to 60 minutes, depending on the age of the child and their specific needs.
Since I believe strongly in the caregiver coaching approach, we will spend this time working together to support your child. I strive to make each session engaging and fun, using what you have available at home to motivate and support your child's learning.

How many therapy sessions will my child need?

The number of therapy sessions required varies significantly from one child to another, depending on the nature and severity of their speech or language needs.
After the initial assessment, I will provide you with a proposed therapy plan, including the recommended frequency and duration of therapy sessions. We will be working together in our therapy sessions, so you will know the strategies and activities to do to support your child’s skills when I’m not there.

Do parents/caregivers need to be involved in the sessions?

Yes! I actively encourage parent and caregiver involvement in therapy sessions as it not only helps you understand your child's needs better but also equips you with strategies to support their communication development at home when I’m not there. Your child is with you more than they are with me, so we will work together in our sessions to make sure you feel confident using strategies and activities that support your child’s skills in play and routines at home.
